The Phases of Building a Group course builds upon Bruce Tuckman’s stages of group formation and includes references to group behaviour in conflict settings (including references to a culture of war - culture of peace - paradigm, collaborative vs cooperative or competitive behaviours and main typologies for difficult groups and how to deal with them).
The course explores each of the following stages and their particularities in conflict settings: Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning. We will raise questions such as:
- How groups are gathered around conflict?
- What particularities of escalation are there and how to deal with them?
- How are rules and norms created and how can they be created collaboratively?
- How do groups disolve?
